Hennepin County Library offers At Home service free of charge to Hennepin County residents who cannot get to a library due to illness, disability, or visual impairment. Materials and services are either delivered in person by a volunteer to your home or sent by U.S. mail at no charge to you with return postage paid.

Elderly Waiver: Home and Community-Based Services for low-income older adults
The Elderly Waiver (EW) program provides home and community-based services for people who need the level of care provided in a nursing home but who choose to live in the community. You must qualify for Medical Assistance to be eligible for Elderly Waiver services. Visit the MN Department of Human Services website for more information about eligibility and enrollment.

Minnesota Elder Justice Center

The MN Elder Justice Center helps prevent and alleviate abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of elders and vulnerable adults. It provides information and training about helping to prevent and spot abuse. It works with victims of abuse as well as professionals who work with older people.

Minnesota Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care

The Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care, an independent state agency, helps investigate complaints and resolve disputes concerning the health, safety, welfare and rights of people using long-term care services, at no charge to the consumer. This includes care at long-term care facilities, home and community-based settings, and home care services. 

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid

Legal Aid attorneys of in the Senior Law Project (SLP) provide civil legal services to adults, 60 years of age and older, with a focus on seniors with the greatest social and economic need. Issues include elder abuse, public benefits, assisted living and nursing home discharges, and others. They also provide monthly Wills Clinics to help eligible clients get Power of Attorney forms, wills, Health Care Directives and Transfer on Death Deeds for free.

Minnesota Legal Service Coalition

This nonprofit, a group of seven legal aid programs, provides a variety of services to help low-income Minnesotans with legal matters. 

  • LawHelpMNGuide can help Minnesotans find information and a lawyer.
  • MN Legal Advice: If you are a low-income Minnesotans, lawyers are available to help you with legal questions.
  • Legal Kiosks are computers located across the state of Minnesota that provide access to legal aid services to individuals without access to wifi or technology.
