CIVIC AND SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT
Older adults contribute tremendously to their communities, and staying connected to the people and activities that matter to us is very important as we grow older. This page provides information to help residents find opportunities to get involved in local civic and social activities. The Community Center is a recreational and meeting facility open for drop-in or rental use. Its 835,000 annual visitors bring people of all ages through the doors. Wireless internet is available.

Located inside the MG Community Center, the Senior Center offers many programs and classes for a wide range of interests--fitness, social, computer education, crafts, art and more. Click here to see the newsletter with a sampling of programs and a monthly calendar.
Age-Friendly Maple Grove Tablet Program
Through a partnership between the City of Maple Grove and T-Mobile, AF MG provides tablet devices for people to use at home. The monthly fee is $20, which covers use of the tablet, unlimited data, and training on the tablet functions and apps. Currently there is a short waiting list to receive the tablet. Call the number above to be added to that list.
AARP Foundation spearheaded Connect2Affect to seek out solutions to social isolation and aims to create a network of resources that meets the needs of anyone who is isolated or lonely, and that helps build the social connections older adults need to thrive.
Friendship Line - Institute on Aging

The nonprofit Institute on Aging's 24-hour toll-free Friendship Line is the only accredited crisis line in the country for people aged 60 years and older, and adults living with disabilities. Trained volunteers specialize in offering a caring ear and having a friendly conversation with depressed older adults. The Friendship Line is both a crisis intervention hotline and a "warmline" for non-emergency emotional support calls. Friendship Line also offers outreach to eligible callers.

GrandPad is a simple and secure tablet device designed for adults aged 75-plus who have never used a computer before. GrandPad comes with features for connecting with loved ones, without unneeded features of other tablets. It also provides high-level customer service. Prices vary; visit the website for more details.
COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUBS

The Maple Grove Lions support the activities of Lions International and also work very actively within the Maple Grove area donating money and time to make our city a better place to live and work. The Lions meet monthly and hold numerous events each year.
Rotary Club of Maple Grove* | Link to website
The Rotary Club of Maple Grove is a diverse group of individuals who live or work around Maple Grove. With 60 members, it is very active locally and internationally with multiple projects that provide service and promote the common good. The Rotary Club meets each Tuesday at 6:45am at 3 Squares Restaurant (12960 Arbor Lakes Parkway N).

Residents are the heart of Age-Friendly Maple Grove. Come join the work in whatever way interests you.
- Attend a monthly Leadership Team meeting (Generally the second Friday of each month, 8:30am-10:00am, MG Community Center. All are welcome, as often as you care to come)
- Join a subcommittee focused on housing, transportation, health & wellness, or other topics
- Write a blog post or article
- Share an idea or tell us what's important to you
- Simply get on the email list to stay up to date on the work

The Minnesota Senior Corps is part of the National Senior Corps operated under the Corporation for National and Community Service. The Senior Corps is a network of more than half a million seniors who are making a difference through three programs: the Senior Companion Program, the RSVP Program, and the Foster Grandparent Program.
